Craving these always
Ingredients
Bars
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 Cup Butter (room temp)
1 Egg (room temp)
1/2 tsp Almond extract
1 3/4 Cups All purpose flour
2 tsp Baking powder
1/4 tsp Salt
1 Tbsp Milk
1/2 Cup Sliced almonds
Icing
1 Cup Powdered sugar
1/4 tsp Almond extract
1-2 Tbsp Milk
Instructions
Preheat oven to 325F and grease a 9x13 pan.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powders and salt.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and almond extract. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture until just combined and dough forms.
Press the dough into the bottom of your well-greased pan. Create a smooth top and then brush with a small amount of milk. Sprinkle the top with sliced almonds and gently press them into the dough.
Baked for 18-20 minutes or until the edges are just starting the turn golden.
Allow to cool for a few minutes before cutting the bars and transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make the icing by combining the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk. Add the milk a little bit at a time until you reach your desired drizzling consistency.
Notes
Can quadruple the bar measurements to fill two 18x13 sheet trays. Makes about 6 dozen bars. (All the dough should fit in a KitchenAid stand mixer)
If you quadruple the bar measurements only double the icing measurements.
Optionally sprinkle the top of the unbaked bars with granulated sugar.
Feel free to up the almond in desired.
